While the scheduled festival programme had to be cancelled due to the pandemic, visitors are still able to enjoy the exhibitions – which are, as always, predominantly shown as open-air presentations. ‘Black Summer’ by Australian photographer Matthew Abbott is displayed in the heart of Zingst until April 30, 2022. The series about Australia’s devastating bushfire season of 2019/2020 was shortlisted for the 2020 Leica Oskar Barnack Award.

As in recent years, Leica serves as a festival partner. Through to August 15, 2021, Leica Gallery Zingst presents the series ‘Dreams the Black Sea’ by Bulgarian-Turkish photographer Suzan Pektaş. After 25 years, she returned to the country of her childhood with a Leica M-P 240 – weaving her personal memories, her grandfather’s stories, and present-day reality into a dreamlike journey through the Black Sea Region. Excerpts from the series were previously featured in LFI 5/2020.
