July 17, 2015

On 18 July, Bernd Jonkmanns presents his book publication 'Record Stores' at the opening of his accompanying exhibition at the Robert Morat Gallery in Hamburg. The book is available at retailers from 1 August.
Since 2009, Hamburg-based photographer Bernd Jonkmanns has been documenting the culture of record stores around the world. On 18 July, he presents the culmination of his travels – a book publication along with an accompanying exhibition at the Robert Morat Gallery in Hamburg.

Return of the Vinyl
Six years ago, when the photographer first embarked on his project, it seemed that record stores were in the process of dying out entirely. However, Vinyl has made a rapid comeback among music and vintage-culture enthusiasts. Travelling to 35 cities on 5 different continents, Jonkmanns has photographed more than 160 record stores around the world. His images depict colourful shop exteriors, shelves filled to the ceiling with records and CDs, as well as the owners, employees and customers whose passion for Vinyl is keeping these venues alive.

The book:
RECORD STORES, Hardcover, 384 pages, 27 × 27 cm (10" Vinyl Format);
500 illustrations, as well as 160 addresses of record stores around the world;
Includes 160 English-language interviews with the record dealers featured in the book;
Retail Price: € 49.00
