State of Play – A Virtual Reception

Martin U Waltz, Berlin: ‘Emptiness is Form’
Audiences are invited to join the ‘erstereihe.hamburg’ gallery for the virtual reception of ‘Stand der Dinge’ (State of Play). The event will be live-streamed via youtube and Facebook on May 28, 2020, starting at 19.00.
The showcase can subsequently be viewed at the gallery premises in Hamburg every Friday (15.00 to 19.00) and Saturday (13.00 to 19.00) until June 25, 2020.
In this group exhibition, Siegfried Hansen, Bastian Hertel, Marco Larousse and Martin U Waltz share their individual perspectives on the disruptive effects of the coronavirus crisis. Based in Hamburg and Berlin, the artists – who share a background in street photography – set out to capture the physical and emotional changes within their urban environments. A deserted city that seems to have been suddenly suspended requires an entirely new visual approach. The four photographers embraced this challenge with inquisitiveness and sensitivity – each of them pursuing a different, yet equally compelling artistic style.
