During this year’s Magnum Photos AGM at London’s Barbican Centre, Leica photographer Matt Black as well as Carolyn Drake and Newsha Tavakolian were declared full members. In addition, Enri Canaj and Cristina de Middel were announced as associate members, while Leica photographer Nanna Heitmann, as well as Zied Ben Romdhane, were welcomed as the agency’s new nominees.
“We are delighted to welcome our two new nominees, two very distinctive voices,” explains the agency’s president, Thomas Dworzak. “Nanna, born in 1994, is a German-Russian artist who has created intimate work on Siberian spirituality and a disappearing industry in Germany. And Zied, born in Tunisia in 1981, has been relentlessly documenting both change and friction in his homeland. It’s inspiring for all of us to see the new talent being brought into – as well as that which has grown in – the collective.”
A portfolio of Nanna Heitmann’s work with images from her series Hiding from Baba Yaga was featured in LFI 03/2019.
