The dangerous search for headlines

Titled "Die gefährliche Suche nach Schlagzeilen" (The dangerous search for headlines), an exciting discussion will be held at the ver.di-Höfe in Hanover, on February 19 at 19:00.
“The dangerous search for headlines – should young reporters be trained to this end?” On February 19 at 19:00, at the verd.di Höfe in Hanover, there will be an exciting discussion on this issue. On the podium and discussing with the audience will be: Prof. Rolf Nobel (HsH, Photojournalism and Documentary Photography), Dr. Stephan Weichert (VOCER, the Association of media and journalism critics), Christian Mihr (Managing Director of Reporters without Borders), and Chris Grodotzki (photojournalist).

Crisis areas and crisis reporters
In October 2014, three young journalists were arrested in Turkey, accused of spying. The case of Chris Grodotzki, Ruben Neugebauer and Björn Kietzmann underlined, like virtually no other story, the fact that freedom of the press and the chance to freely carry out a profession is not even a given in Europe.

At the same time it once again gave rise to the discussion around reporting from crisis areas: do we want well-trained crisis reporters who, like at the military training centre Hammelberg, take part in special courses so that they are prepared for worse-case scenarios? Or do we simply prefer not to have any young reporters in crisis areas?
