Gordon Parks: A Choice of Weapons

December 16, 2021

The Howard Greenberg Gallery in New York celebrates its 40th anniversary with an exhibition by Gordon Parks, which continues at the gallery’s new premises until December 23, 2021.
The Howard Greenberg Gallery in New York presents the showcase ‘Gordon Parks: A Choice of Weapons’ – comprising a selection of images that illustrates the photographer and film-maker’s “cinematic approach to photography”. The showcase is timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Parks’ second directorial release – the Blaxploitation classic, ‘Shaft’ (1971).

Gordon Parks (1912–2006) – who famously referred to his camera as his ‘weapon of choice’ – was renowned for his documentation of American culture and everyday life, with a core focus on social injustice. In 1948, he began his two-decade long career as a photographer for Life magazine, which yielded some of his most groundbreaking work.
