Founded in 2018, the Futures photography platform aims to enhance the visibility of emerging artists by consolidating the resources and talent programmes of leading photography institutions across Europe. As a result, artists selected by the platform’s members gain access to an unprecedented network of professionals, markets and audiences.
Every year the initiative organises a series of events such as workshops, portfolio viewings, exhibitions, festivals and photography awards. At the end of September, all participating institutions are brought together by a dedicated Futures event at Unseen Amsterdam.
In 2018, the platform was comprised of its ten founding members: the British Journal of Photography, CAMERA, Hyères Festival, FOMU, Fotofestiwal Lodz, PHotoESPAÑA, PhotoIreland, Photo Romania Festival, the Robert Capa Contemporary Photography Center, and the Hamburg Triennial of Photography. In 2019, the initiative has gained two additional members – the Calvert Journal, and the Unseen Foundation.
