Aspects of Documentary

Whether on our smart phones, in newspapers or on the computer, a daily flood of photographs makes us aware of the world around us. The Image Profile. Aspekte des Dokumentarischen in der fotografischen Sammlung des MMK exhibition, that remains on display in Frankfurt up until July 15, 2018, shows how the work of artists from the Frankfurt am Main Museum of Modern Art’s collection deals with images taken from the media. The presentation covers a broad range of contemporary forms of expression, from socio-political reportage photography to aspects of subjective, conceptual or staged photography.

On display are works by Nobuyoshi Araki, Thomas Demand, Stefan Exler, Hans-Peter Feldmann, Douglas Gordon, Ilja C. Hendel, Noritoshi Hirakawa, Axel Hütte, Barbara Klemm, Mike Mandel, Anja Niedringhaus, Inge Rambow, Joe Rosenthal, Thomas Ruff, Larry Sultan, Taryn Simon, Dayanita Singh, Beat Streuli, Wolfgang Tillmans, Abisag Tüllmann, Jeff Wall and Tobias Zielony among others.
