The Fotografie Forum Frankfurt currently presents the work of award-winning American photographer Susan Meiselas. Titled 'Carrying the Past, Forward', the multimedia exhibition revolves around compulsory migration due to war, violence or economic circumstance.
Persecution, displacement, loss of home and personal life stories: for decades, the award-winning American photojournalist (born 1948) has documented the topics that currently govern our front-page news – connecting her work to the current debates surrounding refugees and migration in Europe.
Meiselas is celebrated for her unique documentary style and visually compelling story-telling. The weight of history and the highly personal nature of fate always tend to merge within Susan Meiselas' practice. 'Carrying the Past, Forward' is the Magnum photographer's first major solo exhibition at a German venue.
