Pixel project Ruhr Valley

January 26, 2015

From January 27 to March 8, 2015, the Malkasten Gallery in Düsseldorf is showing a selection of its digital collection.
Pixelprojekt_Ruhrgebiet – a digital collection of photographic perspectives as part of a region's collective memory – brings together decades of photographs that represent an examination of regional themes by individual photographers, organizes these series and gives them thematic and chronological structure, then makes them available on an internet website for the first time.

In addition to environmental issues, the main themes deal with social matters, culture, cities, living, sports, economical transformation and, above all, the people of the region.

Pixelprojekt_Ruhrgebiet was developed in 2002 by Peter Liedtke and founded in 2003 at the initiative of 26 photographers at the time.

With the new images from 2013/2014, the digital collection is made up of 417 photo series by 258 photographers, with a total of 8000 individual pictures. It clearly shows the region's collective memory and transformation.
