Pictures of artists

October 4, 2015

Up until October 18, 2015, the Stiftung Museum Kunstpalast in Düsseldorf is presenting 'From Ai Weiwei to Gerhard Richter', an exhibition of works by Erika Kiffl.
Decades ago, the photographer Erika Kiffl visited artists in their ateliers, at a time when they were still at the beginnings of their careers. Nowadays, Kiffl's photographs are an important record of the history of art. The Museum Kunstpalast is now presenting a comprehensive exhibition of Kiffl's work. The exhibition, titled 'Von Ai Weiwei bis Gerhard Richter' (from Ai Weiwei to Gerhard Richter) will be on display in Düsseldorf up until October 18.

A discreet observer
The photographer Erika Kiffl (*1939) has been documenting the activities of the Düsseldorf Art Academy and the exhibitions at the Kuntspalast since the seventies, taking pictures of the artists in their ateliers. Numerous journeys took her to Austria, Eastern Europe, Japan and China. The exhibition, with around 100 of the artist's photographs, conveys an impression of the breadth of her photographic work, as well as the diversity of contemporary art, which she followed as a discreet observer.
