From April 11 to June 2, 2015, the FLATZ Museum in Dornbirn, Austria, is presenting "Transient.Fotografien", an exhibition of works by David Lynch. The US director – famous for films such as The Elephant Man, Blue Velvet, Wild at Heart and Twin Peaks – began his professional life as a visual artist. Even today his films reveal approaches derived from the visual arts.
“Black is like a portal. Beyond it is where fantasy begins.” David Lynch
The fascination with Lynch is often in the mixture of the threatening and the bizarre, as also seen in his photography. Lynch overcomes the static in the photographs and the consequent freezing of the objects, by using multiple exposures. These and other abstract-looking colour compositions exert a strong, at times obscure, attraction.
