Steffen Siegel receives the DGPh History of Photography Research Award 2014
The DGPh Research Award is given out every two years by the History and Archive department of the German Society for Photography (DGPh). This year's edition goes to university lecturer Prof. Dr. Steffen Siegel for his book Neues Licht. Daguerre, Talbot und die Veröffentlichung der Fotografie im Jahr 1839 (New Light. Daguerre, Talbot and the Publication of Photography in the Year of 1839).

Steffen Siegel (born 1976) studied Art, Literature and Philosophy in Constance and Lyon, graduating in Art History from Berlin's Humbold University in 2008. Since 2009, he is a junior professor for Aesthetics of Knowledge in Jena.

Siegel's anthology Neues Licht combines a multitude of mostly unpublished international documents from the year of 1839. The remarkable source collection is sure to become an indispensible reference work for future photo-historical research, in the manner of established publications by Buddemeier, Kemp or Wiegand.
