Artistic Dialogue

Share:

In the special exhibition ‘The Photographer. A Change in Perspective’ (on view at Berlin’s Museum für Fotografie until September 17), contemporary works by students of the Lette Society enter into an open dialogue with images by amateur photographer Kurt Rohde (1920–1996) from the holdings of the Kunstbibliothek Berlin. The resulting showcase is an aesthetic and critical examination of photographic practices and the handling of archives in the face of digital transformation.

The expressive statement of a photograph is often considered to be set in stone. However, when integrated into a broader framework, the meaning of an image can be altered or transformed. Even within an archival context, a photograph tends to contain more than just one possible narrative. This becomes especially apparent in artistic interventions that open up new perspectives on existing archival materials, and bring previously unnoticed aspects to the fore. The exhibition in Berlin is a prime example of such an intervention, with multi-faceted re-interpretations of Rohde’s work by Anton Alexej Andrén, Lula Bornhak, Felicia Feith, Lisa Koch, NiKA, Vanessa Alica Kunert, Luis Jonas May, Veronika Rehm, and Robin C. Wolf.

‘The Photographer. A Change in Perspective’ was curated by Sara-Lena Maierhofer, Katja Böhlau, Patrick Knuchel and Benjamin Kummer.
