Days Japan International Photojournalism Awards 2017

The winners of the Days Japan International Photojournalism Awards 2017 have been announced. The first place was awarded to the photographer Laurent van der Stockt, for his series on an Iraqi Special Unit fighting against the Islamic State. Second place went to the photographers Ameer Alhalbi and Daniel Berehulak, while third place went to JM Lopez and Saber Nouraldine, as well as Yohei Koide and Mainichi Shimbun.
Among the eleven series that received a Special Prize from the jury, two were taken with Leica cameras. For her Kalash Tribe: On the Verge of Extinction series, photographer Sarah Caron was on the road with a Leica Q. Federico Rios’s pictures for his Life inside Farc Guerillas during their last Days in the Jungle, were taken with a Leica M from the LFI loan pool.
