Projection – Photographic Assertions

The 9th edition of the Darmstadt Photography Days will take place from April 22 to 24, 2016. With the motto “Projection – Photographic Assertions” the festival presents exhibitions by 45 artists and photographers, in ten locations around Darmstadt.

The main exhibition at the Designhaus presents works by twelve artists, who each take a unique approach to the demands of truth placed on the medium of photography, and who take a look at the new technical possibilities of the digital age and what photography represents today. From testing the limits of what is perceived as a photographic image, to the asserted references of reality, the range of series represented here is very rich. Participants include Phillip Toledano (USA), Thomas Ruff (D), Xu Yong (CHN), Viktoria Binschtok (D) and Georg Brückmann (D).

In addition to the exhibitions, the weekend event includes a diverse programme of activities, including the presentation of the Merck Award, a symposium and guided tours.
