Manfred Paul (born 1942) is one of the most important representatives of East-German auteur photography. The dkw presents an extensive exhibition of over 160 prints, spanning more than four decades of the artist's oeuvre. The selection ranges widely from his early works to sensuous images of women's legs, all the way to more recent still lifes.
Paul often creates his series over prolonged periods of time. The deeply personal portrait series 'Signs of Life – Verena' has been ongoing since 1971. Among the exhibition's focal points are Paul's still life photographs, a genre the artist particularly favours. The early still life series displayed at the exhibition is also the subject of a publication by the Leipzig-based publishing house Spector Books, which will be released in conjunction with the show.
