Horizon or the illusion of the alien

November 7, 2017

From December 3, 2017, to January 28, 2018, the dkw in Cottbus is presenting the exhibition ‘Joachim Richau. Horizont oder die Illusion der Fremde 1984–1996’.
The dkw in Cottbus is happy to be presenting the exhibition Joachim Richau. Horizont oder die Illusion der Fremde 1984–1996, from December 3, 2017, to January 28, 2018. The display is dedicated to the first great work complex by the (East) Berlin photographer, Joachim Richau (born 1952). In addition to a few early, individual images, the exhibition will primarily present photo series taken over longer periods of time.

With unadorned yet sensitive imagery, Richau’s work speaks about people and their living environments. His documentary-style, black and white sequences, produced in the mid nineties, such as Berliner Traum (Berlin dream) and finales (finals), are defined by a subjective approach towards reality as he found it. His photography is more emotional than analytical.

The exhibition is part of the Joachim Richau – WERK WANDEL retrospective, which is being presented in different formats at a number of locations, and looks back over nearly forty years of the photographer’s work.
