Jeff Wall

October 27, 2014

With 'Tableaux Pictures: Photographs 1996–2013', Kunsthaus Bregenz presents a comprehensive overview of the Canadian photographer’s work. The exhibition continues until 11 January 2015.
In collaboration with the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Humlebæk, Kunsthaus Bregenz presents an exhibition by Jeff Wall – one of the most innovative and at the same time most classic photography artists of his generation.

Wall has been involved in photography since the late sixties. In the seventies, he began to create large-scale images, frequently presenting them in the form of transparencies in light boxes akin to those used for advertising.

In his images, Wall critically contests the traditional aesthetics of photography, whilst simultaneously developing remarkable pictures – or 'tableaux' – containing multilayered narratives. Wall's subject matter ranges from contemporary social issues to the high artifice of imaginary worlds, drawing inspiration from painting, photography, literature and film.
