The foto-forum Bozen puts pictures from Austrian photographer Erich Lessing on display. Runs through 20 June, 2015.
Lessing’s book “Anderswo” (Someplace else) was recently published. The exhibition shows selected works, taken from this publication. Filmmakers Tizza Covi and Rainer Frimmel, both directors of the documentary “Der Fotograf vor der Kamera” (The Photographer in Front of the Camera) - which is presented as part of the exhibition – explain in this piece the process of selecting pictures and doing an edit for Lessing’s book.

Erich Lessing, born in Vienna in 1923, emigrated 1939 towards Palestine. In 1946 he returned to Vienna. Working for the US-news agency Associated Press, he produced editorial work for publications such as Quick, Life, Paris Match, Epoca. He is a member of Magnum Photos since 1951. In 1956 he was covering the political movements in Hungary. Since the 1960s, he produced photos for cultural and historical books like Odysee, the Bible and on Austrian and French history.

Erich Lessing was given countless awards, most recently with the "Ehrenkreuz für Wissenschaft und Kunst 1. Klasse der Republik Österreich" (2013).
