A unique open-air exhibition of XL-size photographs, will be inaugurated on October 1, 2016, at the Rungan Sari complex in Central Kalimantan on the island of Borneo.
‘I AM THE FOREST’ includes pictures by Ulet Ifansasti, Indonesian photographer for Getty Images and The Guardian Photographer of the Year 2015, Swedish wildlife photographer and winner of the Grand Prize of the Smithsonian Institute's 2012 photo competition, Björn Olesen, Environmental Photographer of the Year finalist, Björn Vaughn, and American Racing Extinction photographer, Paul Hilton.
The exhibition focuses on the fauna and flora of Kalimantan, which, in many cases – as with the majestic Borneo orang’utan –, are endangered largely due to the destruction of habitat to make way for palm oil plantations. Every year, Kalimantan experiences what local people commonly refer to as musim asap, or smoke season, caused by the clearing of land by fire. In 2015 the haze caused by the fires climbed to over 10 times above levels considered critical, and reached as far as Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia.
The official opening is October 1, 2016, though a special presentation will be made two weeks earlier on the occasion of the Global Issues Network Youth Conference also being held at Rungan Sari. For details, contact email@example.com
