A Master of Neorealism

October 17, 2018

An extraordinary showcase of photographs by Maria Austria (1915–1975) will be open at the Verborgene Museum in Berlin from 18 October 2018 to 10 March 2019.
From 18 October 2018 to 10 March 2019, the Verborgene Museum in Berlin dedicates an exhibition to the life and work of Dutch photographer Maria Austria (1915–1975). The showcase encompasses some 100 black-and-white photographs and documents, which were previously on display at the Jewish Historical Museum in Amsterdam. The selection includes street scenes from the 1950s and 1960s, excerpts from experimental theatre performances, and – shown for the first time in a German venue – Maria Austria’s view of the ‘Achterhuis’, the back annex that served as a secret hideout for Anne Frank and her family.
