This spring, Bertien van Manen will be honoured with a comprehensive retrospective at the Stedelijk Museum in her home city of Amsterdam. The Robert Morat Gallery in Berlin complements this major museum exhibition with the showcase ‘Book Stories’ – providing a representative overview of the renowned documentary photographer’s 25-year-long career.
Bertien van Manen has gained particular recognition for her book publications. Her earliest monographs, ‘One Hundred Summers, One Hundred Winters’ (De Verbeelding, Amsterdam, 1994) and ‘East Wind, West Wind’ (De Verbeelding, Amsterdam, 2001), firmly established her reputation as an uncompromising documentarist and photography artist.
Van Manen’s work has been exhibited in prestigious institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Museum für Gestaltung in Zurich, the Fine Arts Museum in Boston and the Museum Ludwig in Budapest. She will also be honored with an extensive retrospective exhibition in her hometown of Amsterdam at Stedelijk Museum this spring.
The opening at Robert Morat will take place on on Friday, January 10 2020, at 7 pm.
