Bright Moments

September 21, 2018

Bogdan Dziworski’s exhibition f/5.6 Bright Moments will be on display at the Hilaneh von Kories Gallery in Berlin from 22 September to 21 December 2018.
From 22 September to 21 December 2018, Berlin’s Hilaneh von Kories Gallery presents a showcase of images by Polish film-maker and photographer Bogdan Dziworski. While Dziworski has achieved considerable acclaim within his home country, his work is still something of a discovery for German audiences. Since the 1960s, the Leica photographer (born 1941) has created a unique photographic oeuvre that has earned him the cognomen of ‘Poland’s Cartier-Bresson’.

The photographs on display are independent works, many of which have never been exhibited before. Shot in high-contrast black and white, Dziworski’s analogue images give insight into everyday life in Polish cities during the second half of the twentieth century. “The pictures I took during those years were never staged,” the photographer explains. “They are the result of walking, day in day out, sometimes for eight hours at a time. You have to wait for the precise moment in which a scene arises from reality. And you have to be lucky — which I tended to be.”

The opening takes place today at 7pm.
