On July 9 and 10, 2020, the Grisebach auction house in Berlin offers a host of exciting discoveries. Special highlights include the city panorama ‘Pont du Carrousel, vue du Pont Royal, Paris’ by Gustave Le Gray, one of the most collectable 19th-century photographers. The print, which dates back to ca. 1859, is listed with an estimate of 10,000–15,000 EUR . The catalogue also features the collage ‘Elephant and Kilimanjaro’ (1984/2005) by the late American photographer Peter Beard (estimate: 100,000–150,000 EUR).
Another gem is Frank Horvart’s ‘Givenchy Hat, for Jardin des Modes’ (Paris, 1958) – an image that captures both an iconic fashion moment and the spirit of the times (12,000-15,000 EUR). Also featured is the vintage print ‘Daretha [Dorothea] Albu. Kostümentwurf: Lotte Pritzel’ (ca. 1925) by Germaine Krull, one of the leading figures in the history of photography (3,000–5,000 EUR).
