Up to 3 September 2018 an exhibition of works by award-winning photographer Robin Hammond is showing at the f3 – Freiraum für Fotografie gallery in Berlin.

Robin Hammond, who is a member of the Amsterdam-based agency NOOR, spent several years travelling to parts of the world where lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersexual (LGBTI) people experience severe threats and persecution. In the course of his project, he captured hundreds of portraits of individuals who are forced to either conceal or defend their identity on a daily basis – often at great risk to their safety and even their lives.

Hammond’s images are not portraits in the conventional sense, but artworks that were conceived in close collaboration with the people he captured. By telling their personal stories, both visually and in the form of an accompanying text, his protagonists create a tangible document of their everyday reality, and thereby reclaim their dignity and sense of self.
