The group exhibition focuses on the eroticization of the female body in photographic advertising – from the early 1940s’ product advertising, through the era of hyper-erotization of women in the 1990s, to contemporary approaches in photographic advertising.
Legendary posters and photographs by well-known artists such as Horst P. Horst, Erwin Blumenfeld, Peter Lindbergh, Herb Ritts, Irving Penn and Jeanloup Sieff, to name but a few, will be on display. On the one hand, the exhibition shows different ways of depicting woman in advertising; on the other, it questions the mutual influences of fashionable and commercial photography in the creation of aesthetic standards. In addition, the exhibition refers to the sociocultural impact of advertising and how it influences common role models and notions of beauty.
