Geliebtes Afghanistan (Beloved Afghanistan), an exhibition of photographs by Anja Niedringhaus, opens tomorrow at the Willy-Brandt-Haus in Berlin. Organized by the Willy-Brandt-Haus Circle of Friends and the Society for Humanistic Photography, the exhibition presents Niedringhaus’s impressions of her beloved Afghanistan in 130 photographs.

Niedringhaus, Associated Press photographer, was injured various times whilst working as a war correspondent. In 2014, she was assassinated while documenting the presidential elections in Afghanistan.

The exhibition focusses on the situation of women and children in the country – which was one of Niedringhaus’s constant concerns. Lela Ahmadzai’s multi-media exhibition Die Unbeugsamen – Vier Frauen in Kabul (The Stubborn – Four Women in Kabul) will open in parallel. Both exhibitions run until January 24, 2016.
