Acrobats and Lion Tamers

December 4, 2020

The exhibition ‘Circesque’ with portraits by Christian Tagliavini is on show at the Camera Work Gallery in Berlin from December 5, 2020, to February 20, 2021.
From December 5, 2020, Berlin’s Camera Work Gallery presents a showcase of new works by Christian Tagliavini. ‘Circesque’ is the photography artist’s most elaborate series to date, and was three years in the making. The exhibition, which continues until February 20, 2021, encompasses more than 20 portraits.

The images are complemented by a selection of the handmade props and costumes featured in these wondrous orchestrations – elevating the showcase to an all-round visual spectacle.

The series was inspired by the famous Circus Sideshows of 1920s America, which formed an integral part of the country’s entertainment culture at the time. In these shows, extraordinary people – often promoted under the banner of ‘Human Freaks’ – let audiences marvel at their unusual skills and unique personalities.
