From September 5 to November 12, 2015, the Hilaneh von Kories Gallery in Berlin is presenting "In Flagranti", an exhibition of new works and computer collages, created by the Dutch artist pair Schilte & Portielje.
A world of the imagination
The artists, who live and work in Rotterdam, became known principally thanks to their series of unusual and staged figures: the curtain rises on fantastical beings and dream creations that draw the viewer into the world of the artists' imagination.
Masques with alienating effect
Costumes with veils and lace, corsets, suspenders, jewelry, neck ties and cravats, transparent materials, tight-fitting clothing: all these accessories and fancy dresses give life to very diverse and theatrical characters. Yet the masques also convey a sense of alienation. How else could such large feet belong to such a dainty body? Which of the curiosities and physical abnormalities are artificially created?
The artists' deliberately intend to make things difficult to explain. Over recent years, they have further perfected their repertoire: the latest series, presented with the title "In Flagranti", plays with the surprising and unexpected moments that arise in surreal, and at the same time erotically loaded, situations. There will be 30 motifs on display in the exhibition.
