A World of Beauty

October 31, 2017

On 15 November, ‘The Atlas of Beauty’ with photographs by Mihaela Noroc opens at the ‘F3–Freiraum für Fotografie’ gallery in Berlin. The reception starts at 19.00.
Mihaela Noroc’s exhibition The Atlas of Beauty will be on display at the
‘F3–Freiraum für Fotografie’ gallery in Berlin from 16 November 2017 to 22 January 2018.

It all began with a trip to Ethiopia in 2013, which radically changed the course of Mihaela Noroc’s life. Fascinated by the women she encountered on her travels, and the diversity of their backgrounds and life circumstances, the young hobby photographer decided to quit her job and dedicate herself exclusively to travelling and taking pictures.

!The! Atlas of Beauty started out as a small independent project financed by the artist’s savings. But it was not long before her venture took on global proportions.

Always travelling with only a backpack and her photo equipment, Noroc went on to portray more than 2000 women in 50 countries – from Germany to North Korea, from Myanmar to Iceland. Wherever she went, she approached women in the streets, asking them for a picture and a brief conversation.

The result is a kaleidoscope of women’s portraits that could hardly be more varied. “To me it’s important to show as many women as possible,” Mihaela Noroc explains. “Young women and older ones, women from different ethnicities, cultures and backgrounds.”
