Cindy Sherman

September 11, 2015

From September 16, 2015, to April 10, 2016, the me Collectors Room in Berlin is presenting a retrospective exhibition of the American artist's work.
The retrospective "Cindy Sherman – Works from the Olbricht Collection" exhibition will be on display as of September 16, 2015, within the framework of the Berlin Art Week, at the me Collectors Room. With 65 photographs from virtually all the artist's different creative phases, the collection offers a significant and comprehensive overview of the photo artist's work.

Cindy Sherman (*1954) is a master of masquerade. She is both performer and photographer, subject and object in a personal union. However, her self-portraits do not show any authentic personalities, but rather paraphrase social and cultural stereotypes, so as to be able to de-construct them by means of the different forms of presentation she uses – cinematic, classical painting and advertising.

Sherman has created an inimitable and ground-breaking body of work, which has expanded photographic imagery in an unexpected manner. The exhibition has been put together in close collaboration with the artist.
