An installation by Robert Knoth and Antoinette de Jong will be on display at C/O Berlin up until September 25, 2016.
For over twenty years, Robert Knoth and Antoinette de Jong have been following the heroin trail that runs from Afghanistan, through Central Asia, Russia and the Balkans, East Africa and Dubai to western Europe, to finally get lost on the streets of London. Brutal gang wars, deathly addiction, illegal money laundering, unscrupulous corruption as well as love for sale, which pairs up with the epidemic-like spread of AIDS, are presented as a multi-media installation, that does an impressive job of documenting the Poppy project. It reveals a dark side of globalisation, reflected in the faces of dealers, prisoners, prostitutes, addicts, border soldiers and policemen.
The exhibition is made up of a 45 minute installation with four video projections as well as additional photos and an information board. C/O Berlin is presenting Poppy in collaboration with the Society for Humanistic Photography. The project was produced by Paradox, and supported by the Mondriaan Fund. A book has been published by Hatje Cantz.
