The Albrecht Gallery in Berlin is presenting surprising photographs by Julia Baier, up until November 12, 2016. The pictures, that are part of her Northern Drifting series, were taken by the photographer while on a grant in Iceland.

Baier, who usually works with both analogue and digital M cameras, used her smart phone camera to photograph this project. The creative use of the panorama function – taken, for example, out of a moving car – resulted in unusual images of the Icelandic landscape.

The winner of various competitions in German-speaking countries, Baier enjoys international recognition: in 2004 she was proposed for the renowned World Press Masterclass, and the year before she was competing in the final round of the Leica Oskar Barnack Award. The M Magazin No. 3 presented parts of Baier’s Water Matters series, an anthem to the element water, which she has frequently dedicated photographic attention to.
