36 exhibitors from 13 countries are set to present works by around 115 artists at this year’s Photo Basel fair – culminating in a display of some 450 images. As in previous years, the fourth edition of Switzerland’s first international photography fair will take place in the legendary Volkshaus Basel (refurbished by acclaimed architects Herzog & de Meuron), which is situated less than 700 metres from the annual Art Basel fair.
The main programme of exhibitions is complemented by the showcase Pivotal Moments, featuring rare vintage prints by some of the medium’s greatest masters. Another special exhibition presents the 35 publications shortlisted for the Aperture Foundation PhotoBook Awards. In addition, visitors can enjoy a carefully curated fringe programme of events such as the newly-established Photo Basel Conversations.
The artists represented at this year’s Photo Basel include Balthasar Burkhard, Edward Burtynsky, Stephen Shore, Erwin Olaf, Lee Miller, Robert Capa, Antanas Sutkus, Tokyo Rumando, Albarran Cabrera, Elina Brotherus, Roger Ballen, Jessica Backhaus, Philippe Halsman, Thomas Dworzak, Karlheinz Weinberger, Sonja Braas, Paolo Ventura, Robert Polidori, Mikiko Hara, Jeanloup Sieff, Albert Watson, Takshi Suzuki, Juan Osorno, Sarah Moon, Frank Mädler, Ute & Werner Mahler, Jan Banning, and many more.
