August Sander Prize for Portrait Photography

2022 marks the third edition of the August Sander Prize for Portrait Photography, which is sponsored by Ulla Bartenbach and Prof. Dr. Kurt Bartenbach, and awarded in cooperation with the Photographische Sammlung/SK Stiftung Kultur in Cologne. The idea behind the award is to promote young approaches in the field of conceptual documentary photography. In reflection of August Sander’s influential portrait work, participants should primarily focus on the genre of portrait photography.

Endowed with € 5,000, the August Sander Prize is awarded every two years. The submission deadline for the current edition is January 28, 2022. Participation is open to German and international artists up to the age of 40, whose work is predominantly centred around photography.
