About the photographer
Pulitzer Prize-winner Anja Niedringhaus (1965–2014) began reporting in the nineties from various crisis regions in the Balkans as well as the Middle East. For her on-going commitment to documenting the dimensions of armed conflict and its consequences on the people affected, the IWMF granted Niedringhaus the Courage in Journalism Award in 2005. She was assassinated while covering the Afghan Presidential elections in 2014.
