On March 8, 2022 – International Women's Day – British-Swedish photojournalist traveled to Lviv, Ukraine, on behalf of the German weekly newspaper DIE ZEIT.
Together with Ukrainian journalist Olha Petriv, she engaged with mothers and daughters as they passed through the train station on their journey to safety – asking them about where they had come from, and what they were planning to do next. The impact of war is felt especially by women, not least due to the prevalence of sexualised and gender-based violence.

Since 2014, Anastasia Taylor-Lind has regularly travelled to Ukraine, in order to document the war and the fates of those who had lived through it. Her first book, ‘MAIDAN – Portraits from the Black Square’, was published in 2014. The volume features a series of portraits of anti-government protestors and mourners, captured in a makeshift photo studio in Kiev’s Maidan Nezalezhnosti (Independence Square) that same year.

A TED Fellow and former Harvard Niemann Fellow (2016), Taylor-Lind works as a photojournalist for leading publications worldwide, including The National Geographic Magazine, TIME, Vanity Fair, The New Yorker, The New York Times, The Sunday Times and The Guardian.
