Mashisa Fukase: Private Scenes

September 7, 2018

From September 7 to December 12, 2018, FOAM photography museum in Amsterdam is presenting Private Scenes, an exhibition of works by Mashisa Fukase.
With Private Scenes, FOAM in Amsterdam is presenting a comprehensive exhibition of works by Mashisa Fukase, from September 7 to December 12, 2018.
The Japanese photographer’s life’s oeuvre was not accessible for the general public for a long time. The reason for this was a tragic accident, where the artist suffered permanent brain damage. After Fukase’s death, his archives and collection were gradually disclosed, revealing an incredible wealth of material. FOAM is now presenting a retrospective with original prints from the Masahisa Fukase Archives in Tokyo. In addition to Fukase’s seminal work, Ravens, the exhibition presents numerous important photo series, publications and documentations from the early sixties up until 1992. The resulting display gives rise to a noteworthy visual biography of one of Japan’s most radical and experimental post-war photographers.
