The exhibition ‘Feast for the Eyes – The Story of Food in Photography’ is open at the FOAM in Amsterdam from 21 December 2018 to 3 March 2019.
From 21 December 2018 to 3 March 2019, the FOAM Museum for Photography in Amsterdam presents the exhibition ‘Feast for the Eyes – The Story of Food in Photography’. With its broad selection of images (ranging from Stephen Shore’s famous diner breakfast scene to the allegorical still lifes of Laura Letinsky), the exhibition covers a vast spectrum of visual approaches – be it Roger Fenton’s opulent, 19th-century fruit displays, or the distinctive aesthetics of 1960s cookery books.
As well as retracing the history of the genre, the showcase also highlights its growing popularity in recent years – and explores why food has come to be one of the most widely-photographed subjects of the present day.
