While the Hektor 73 mm f/1.9 (launched in 1931) offered an open aperture performance that was far from remarkable, in its day it was deemed an extraordinary lens due to its high light sensitivity – after all, in the thirties the standard aperture was usually the region of f/5.6.
Constructed as a triplet (six elements in three pairs), it was the first lens to enable night-time and theatre shots – both of which were almost impossible to achieve with any other system at the time.
