'Traces' Walter Sans

Info Camera
Leica master shot
Picture of the Week
In 2006 and 2007 I made a photographic series about World War II –traces in the German landscape. The places I photographed are found on four German islands: Heligoland, Rugen, Dune and Usedom. On these Islands you find remains of the WOII-history. Interesting about it is how the new generation deals with these remains. On Heligoland by example they try to forget about it. On Rugen the massive five kilometres long building Prora just stands there. On Usedom they made a museum, but the former test-site of the V2-missilles is surrounded by a large fence and not allowed to enter. The sea-harbor Hitler wanted to build at the isle Dune is long forgotten. At this moment the last remains of this never fulfilled harbor rust away.
