Working busily at night for long stretches, artistic photographer Viktoria Sorochinski, has some rather unusual encounters – with herself.

After first sketching her ideas, Sorochinski begins with the physical preparations for each scenario – the stage settings, so to speak. She finds her magical props at the flea market in Berlin’s Mauerpark, or in the special antiques shop VEB Orange located in her immediate neighbourhood, and from an artist and collector of peculiar objects, La Tercera Mano. It may be hard to believe, but the whole project is a one-woman-show: from the idea, to obtaining the props and the costumes, to the lighting and the final completed image.

It requires great courage to face one’s thoughts and demons so explicitly. According to the artist, however, it was on the whole a fascinating and even therapeutic process because it allowed her to observe and analyse herself more profoundly. But, of course, there were also moments where she recognised things she was not prepared to face. It was like a meditation: working entirely alone, with some productions taking several hours to complete.
