Increased prize money and an award ceremony to be held in Germany: the 2016 edition of the Leica Oskar Barnack Award introduces a number of changes. Now an initial short list of twelve photographers will be published for the first time. The award ceremony takes place in early autumn as part of an event within Germany. While the monetary value of the main prize remains the same at 25 000 euros, the newcomer award has been doubled and now amounts to 10 000 euros. Both winners also receive camera equipment worth 10 000 euros. In addition, the remaining ten finalists stand to receive 2500 euros each. All aspects of the Public’s Choice Award, however, remain the same: the winner, who is voted via the online platform i-shot-it.com, continues to receive 2500 euros.

Here are the twelve photographers who have been short listed for the 2016 Leica Oskar Barnack Award!
