“This is my latest series called Colorless and Tasteless. Since I started working at art museums, my perception has changed a lot. I prefer to take pictures of still lifes and spaces. I enjoy putting together photos that seem to appear rather insignificant and lacking content. In my opinion, many photographers set too much focus on themes and meaning. For me, a photo with rougher textures, vague and ordinary subjects can bring out more emotions. Although my series is called Colorless and Tasteless, it reflects my emotions and feelings.”

This picture was taken in Shenzhen, in an old restaurant with nearly 20 years of history, named Indonesia Seafood Restaurant. It's on my way to work. The restaurant and the organization where I work are both parts of the Shenzhen Overseas Chinese Town (OCT). It’s a city-like area which includes residences, parks, malls, hotels, theaters and art museums.

This is a river dam in Guangzhou’s suburban area. Guangzhou has a well-developed river system. It attracted many settlements that are distributed along its banks, where people live in a rural lifestyle. I came to a village for a recreational weekend. Walking around on a dam, I found a breach where the dam was broken. Villagers used stones to fix the hole; however, water splashed everywhere.

This is the entrance to the Guangdong Contemporary Art Center (GCAC). It is housed in a converted textile mill. It used to be a suburban area, but is now part of the city's downtown. Besides holding contemporary art exhibitions, this place has attracted many coffee shops and art design companies. Working in a loft is very popular in this city.

In fact, I also work at the OCT Contemporary Art Terminal (OCAT), which is located in a loft. This building used to be a factory manufacturing televisions. The OCT Company owns this factory as well. The summer and winter seasons obviously stimulate my initiative and creativity. I can take better pictures during these seasons. In spring and autumn I usually feel sleepy.

This is where I work at the OCT Art and Design Gallery. I took this picture when I had just started working for this organization. Once there was a fashion show going on downstairs, so I got myself a fruit juice and watched it.

Shenzhen OCT has three art museums in the same area. Outside the museums, there is a garden with many trees. I took the picture of my girlfriend’s hand. She is lively and I take many photos of her. When we were walking in the park, she suddenly jumped up and tried to catch the aerial roots of a banyan tree. I pressed the shutter just at that moment.
