BEHIND THE SCENES

66 bundles of never-developed roles of film from the fifties – this was the starting point for the Rescued Film Project.

Over a year ago, Levi Bettwieser purchased the approximately 1200 roles of film and launched an Indiegogo campaign to develop the pictures taken by a photographer know as Paul. The initial financing goal has long been reached; however, interested parties can continue to support the project financially – or they can submit old roles of film. Somewhat reminiscent of the story of the photographer Vivian Maier, the project has evolved to become an online archive of forgotten pictures taken in the thirties and all the way up to the end of the century.

Even films that have been damaged by heat or humidity can be developed at Bettwieser’s laboratory and find their way onto his website; and those who continue interested in analogue photography can purchase selected pictures at The Rescued Film’s Etsy Shop.
