In ihrer Serie „Blackwater“ (2008–2012) setzt sie sich auf vielschichtige Weise mit den verheerenden Waldbränden entlang des Great Dismal Swamp im Südosten Virginias auseinander, wo die ersten Sklavenschiffe in Amerika andockten. In ihrem Werk zieht Mann eine Parallele zwischen der Naturkatastrophe und den Rassenkonflikten in den USA.

Die Preisverleihung fand am 15. Dezember 2021 in London im Victoria & Albert Museum (V&A) statt. Die Ausstellung mit allen 13 Fotografinnen und Fotografen ist noch bis zum 9. Januar im V&A zu sehen.
