Die Auswahl konzentriert sich auf Persönlichkeiten vor allem der literarischen Welt, nahen oder eher flüchtigen Begegnungen Gisèle Freunds auf ihren biografischen Stationen.
Besonderen Raum nimmt Gisèle Freunds Verbindung zu Walter Benjamin ein, die, neben gemeinsamen kunstsoziologischen Interessen, durch Freundschaft und Solidarität im Pariser Exil geprägt war.
