WestLicht Photographica Auction

November 15, 2018

Within the framework of the WestLicht auction in Vienna, iconic photographs as well as rare cameras and items of equipment will once again come under the hammer on November 23.
Within the framework of the WestLicht auction, numerous history-laden, vintage prints will once again be coming under the hammer. Among the highlights this year is The Falling Soldier, with a starting price of €60,000. This photograph, taken by Robert Capa, shows a dying militiaman during the Spanish Civil War in 1936, and is one of the most significant war photos of all times. Other pictures among those to be auctioned were taken by Elliot Erwitt, Henri Cartier-Bresson and Thomas Hoepker, who took the famous portrait of Muhammad Ali.

Leading up to the event, visitors have a chance to view the photos every day between 14:00 and 18:00. The auction itself will take place on Friday, November 23, at 17:00. You can find an overview of all the images here: 18. WestLicht Photo Auction

In addition, the WestLicht camera auction will be taking place for the 33rd time. Rarities, such as the Leica M-P (Typ 240) with series number 5000001, or the Leica MP that belonged to the French photographer Gérard Bois, will be up for grabs. Only 141 of these black-lacquered editions were sold worldwide, making them one of Leica’s most legendary cameras.

The camera auction begins on Saturday, November 24, at 11:00. A complete catalogue with all the items can be found here: WestLicht Photographica Auction
