On 12 January, the Atelier Schwab in Wertheim will be hosting a talk by Klaus Honnef, titled ‘From Likeness to Image’. The German art historian, art critic, curator and theorist counts among the leading voices for Artistic Photography, and is the author of numerous books on contemporary painting and photography.

In the mid-seventies the medium of photography entered a new era, which began with the success story of modern Artistic Photography. The medium capable of capturing a ‘true’ likeness moved into a reflective phase. During this period, the focus shifted onto the technical and aesthetic aspects of the medium’s visual possibilities. Honnef’s talk traces this evolution ‘from likeness to image’ – opening with Walker Evans’ famous photograph, Studio, taken in 1936.

Reservations are kindly requested at atelier@johannes-schwab.com. Admission: € 10,00.
